1967: Rover becomes part of Leyland Motors Ltd, later British Leyland as Rover-Triumph
1970: Range Rover introduced
1971: Land Rover Series 3 launched
1975:Britsh Leyland collapses and is nationalised, the Ryder Report recommends Land Rover split from Rover and become a separate company within British Leyland, becoming a commercial vehicle division called the Land Rover Leyland Group.
1976: The One millionth Land Rover leaves the production line
1978: Land Rover Limited formed, a subsidiary of British Leyland
1980: 5 door Range Rover introduced. Rover car production ends at Solihull, transfer of SD1 production to Cowley, Oxford, Solihull now exclusively used for Land Rover production.

2006: Second generation Freelander introduced, a new 2.4 litre diesel engine, 6 speed gearbox, dash and forward facing rear seats for defender announced.
2007: 8th May, 4,000,000th Land Rover rolls off the production line and a Discovery 3 donated to the Born Free Foundation. August, Tata Motors of India and Mahindra as well as financial sponsors Cerberus Capital Management and Apollo Management express interest in purchasing Jaguar Cars and Land Rover from Ford Motor Company.
2008: 26th March, Ford agrees to sell Jaguar and Land Rover operations to Tata Motors, Purchase of Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford finalised on the 2nd June.
