This period helped Chrysler to successfully ride out the Great Depression and to survive this difficult period. Plymouth cars were updated and developed in order to keep up with their competitors - this involved introducing the flathead-6 engine, downdraft carburetor, increasing safety standards and features. Two door convertible coupes were introduced.
Plymouth produced a number of truck models over the years, and they were also recognized for the production of concept cars. The Plymouth remained popular in the United States and sold well amongst its competition until 1957/58 when the reputation of Plymouth was damaged when the quality of the car was scrutinized as being built with the use of poor low quality materials which showed signs of corrosion and rust. Chrysler attempted to re-establish Plymouth's reputation and credibility. They made developments and produced new models, and they gave the Plymouth a new logo. However, Chrysler's attempts didn't restore the identity and production of the vehicles ended in 2001.
