History of Ginetta motor car company
The Ginetta motor car company was founded in Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1958 as Ginetta Cars Limited. The founders were brothers called Bob, Ivor, Trevers and Douglas Walklett. The companies first design was the G1 but it wasn't placed on sale to the public. The first design that was launched for the public was the G2 which was actually produced as a kit car for motor enthusiasts to build from home. The first racing car was unveiled in 1961, the G4. The G4 was a very successful race car beating MGB's and TR's also later on the likes of Jaguar 3.8's. With this amount of success the G4 prompted more ambitious designs with the success with the Imp powered G15 and a Chrysler 1725 powered G21. Both cars were available as factory built or kit cars after testing and approval.
In the 1980's the Ginetta company concentrated on the kit car market revisiting the G4 model now designed as the G27 later with a range of sports salons including a much loved V8 G33.
Lawrence Tomlinson now owns the company, a successful business man as well as an experienced race car driver. The aims of the company have pretty much stayed the same, to continue producing innovative, capable and above all, affordable sports cars.
In 2008 the company reached its 50th anniversary and in the companies honour of reaching this mile stone the G50 was launched. The G50 was designed and built along side other Ginetta's in their 80,000 square foot factory in Garforth on the outskirts of Leeds, West Yorkshire.
