Giovanni Agnelli was born in Pinerolo, Piedmont Italy he was the son of Edoardo Agnelli and Aniceta Frisetti, his father was mayor of Villar Perosa. When Giovanni was five his father died aged forty. In 1895 Giovanni became mayor, a position he held until his death.

1914 to 1918: WW1 During the war car production at factory was stopped, Fiat produced and supplied the allies, with aircraft, engines, machine guns, trucks, and ambulances.
1929: This was the year of the Wall Street crash, which started the Great Depression, and the car business was badly affected.
1930 - 1939: As the economy recovered from the stock market crash Motor Car companies thrived and less wealthy people began to purchase motor vehicles.
1939 - 1945: WW11. Production and design of motor cars basically ceased as all manufacturing resources became involved with the war effort, during WW2 Fiat made military machines and vehicles. Giovanni Agnelli died soon after the Second World War finished, aged 79. Vittorio Valletta became President of Fiat. Vittorio Valletta was an Italian industrialist and REMAINED president of Fiat until 1966.
1953: Fiat presented their first diesel engine.
1966: In 1966 Gianni Agnelli, the founder’s grandson, became President of Fiat until his death in 2003.
1970: The Fiat 128 was voted European Car of the year.
1986:Fiat acquired Alfa Romeo.
1993: In 1993 Fiat acquired Maserati.
1999: A new chapter began when the company launched the the only "Fiat Maserati", a 3200 GT, two door coupe.
