Founding of the Datsun motor car company
The brand name Datson was created by DAT Motorcar Co. in 1931. The name was purposely given as a symbol of the smaller sized vehicles that the DAT Motorcar Co. were producing. The name changed in 1933 to Datsun after the Nissan Motor Company Ltd took over. Many different types of vehicles were produced over the years, the main ones being light trucks and sports cars including the Fairlady roadsters and coupes. Nissan phased out the use of the Datsun brand in 1986 but decided to re-launch it again in March, 2012 - the first sales commencing in India, Indonesia and Russia in 2014. The name Datsun derives a combination of reasons - DAT being the first letter of the surnames of the company partners when DAT Motorcar Co. was created - the surnames were Den, Aoyama and Takeuchi. Sun means loss or to worship the sun in Japanese, therefore, the two words forming Datsun. The logo shows the name Datsun in capital letters written across a red circle, this logo is based on the Flag of Japan and the same one was used for Nissan's logo where only the name was replaced.
